Before and after...and during
...Above here is a two shot deal of this same picture...it shows a good example of how I do these Black and White paintings. I use a satin Black oil and a satin White oil. The painting is made from a projection, where I do as best of a drawing as possible using a fine point sharpie pen. Then I start with the black oil running through the airbrush while holding the original picture in my left hand (or taped where I can see it) I do my best to figure up where every detail of the black should go---which by now as you can see on the bottom picture that it is looking like charcoal. After I have satisfird myself with installing the black, I switch over to the white satin oil paint and once again paint throughout the whole picture. -Thus making corrections (see the old mans hair in the center) and add the reflections and highlites everywhere they can apply.
The end result is a chalk like 'flat' picture/painting that is even toned throughout. If I were to make it a color painting I would simply dust color onto the areas that need it. Now you know how I do these works.
